Tesla C870 doesn't support streams

I have asked Paulius, who work for NVIDIA about what I have found out from running simpleStreams on GeForce 8800 and Tesla C870. He told me that the ability of overlapping memory copy with kernel execution is on GPUs with compute capability 1.1 and higher, but Tesla C870 is compute capability 1.0. Got it!

The information about compute capability is available in Programming Guide. Below was excerpted from Version 2.0.


The compute capability of a device is defined by a major revision number and a minor revision number.

Devices with the same major revision number are of the same core architecture. The devices listed in Appendix A are all of compute capability 1.x (Their major revision number is 1).

The minor revision number corresponds to an incremental improvement to the core architecture, possibly including new features. The technical specifications of the various compute capabilities are given in Appendix A.


Appendix A is about Technical Specifications and all those specifications of each revision of compute capability can be found there.


From the meeting with Dr. Box today, he told us that we are going to have a new GPU from AMD. So he told us to start looking at this. http://ati.amd.com/technology/streamcomputing/resources.html And I will have to work with Clayton and Himanshu to set up the system.

Data scheduling on GPGPU (CUDA) is the key word for my research. :) It might be extend into check point which is related to Mon's research in the future.

This ADI's FireStream was lunched last year in SC07 (Now, I am in SC08) to compete this NVIDIA's Tesla.

Day 233...SC08: First Day

มางาน SC08 ที่ Austin, TX

ตื่นแต่ตีห้า ทำอะไรเสร็จแล้วก็ไปรอพรรคพวกที่แลปตอน 6:30 นัดกันตอน 6:45 แต่ละคนก็ทยอยมา มี เอก มน James พี่นูน Clayton แล้ว Dr. Box ก็ขับรถมารับตอน 7:00 พอดี (นี่เขากะเวลากันไว้หมดแล้ว คือ เราเป็นพวกซื่ออะ บอกยังไง หนูก็มายังงั้น)

แล้วก็ออกเดินทาง ระหว่างนั้นก็หลับมั่ง แต่ไม่สนิท แต่ละคนสลับกันคุย ตอนแรกเจมส์มันเงียบ (Dr. Box แซวว่ามันยังไม่ตื่น) ซักพัก มันก็เริ่มคุย แล้วมันก็คุยยาว...

มีแวะซื้อของกินนิดหน่อย ระหว่างเติมน้ำมัน เผื่อบางคนยังไม่กินอะไรตอนเช้า เรากิน cereal ไปแล้ว แถมยังแบก cereal bars ไปอีก ประมาณว่า กองทัพเดินด้วยท้อง ก็เลยซื้อแต่น้ำเปล่าไปขวดนึง

ประมาณ 11 โมงก็แวะ Subway กินเที่ยง ใครๆ ก็รู้ว่า Subway มันเป็นแซนวิช วัดกันเป็นนิ้ว มีขนาด six-inched กับ foot-long แต่ไม่ว่าจะเป็นหกนิ้วหรือฟุตนึง ไอ้เอ๋ก็กินไม่หมด ก็เลยสั่ง mini bars ประมาณสี่นิ้วแทน (อันเล็กสุดอะ)

มาถึงออสตินประมาณบ่ายสองได้ ก็เช็คอิน แต่ Dr. Box กับ Clayton ไม่ได้พักด้วย (ก็ไม่ใช่ Student Volunteer นิ) เข้าไปในห้องยังไม่เจอรูมเมท เห็นแต่ของ (อ้อ ก่อนมา เขาแอด facebook เราไว้ด้วยแหละ อิอิ) แล้วก็เดินไปที่ convention center ระหว่างเดินไปก็เจอขบวนเรียกร้องการแต่งงานของเกย์ พร้อมธงสีรุ้ง

พอไปถึง venue ก็ไปเอาแจ็คเก็ตที่ออฟฟิศของ student volunteer ไป register เอากระเป๋า ฯลฯ ชอบแจ็คเก็ตอะ นิ่ม กันน้ำ และอุ่น เพียงแต่ ตอนแรกที่บอกขนาดเขาไปเป็น S พอจัดมา แขนยาวจังวุ้ย มือหนูหาย เลยลอง XS ก็ยังยาวไปอยู่ดี สุดท้ายลงที่ XXS... เฮ้ย! ตัวตูเล็กขนาดนั้นเชียว

แล้วก็เดินแก่วไปแก่วมา รอเวลา orientation ตอนนั้นแหละ ได้เห็นรูมเมท แต่ไม่แน่ใจ เลยไม่ได้ทัก แล้วก็ขึ้นรถไปกินข้าวต่อที่ D&B เป็นบุฟเฟ่ต์

ที่ D&B ฮามาก...เจมส์มันมุข ฮากระจายทั้งโต๊ะ แต่มุขมันเถื่อน เป็น dirty joke ไม่เล่าดีก่า ถึงมันเล่นแล้วจะไม่ได้ dirty เท่าไหร่ก็เหอะ

กินเสร็จก็ไปเล่นเกมส์ต่อ มีเกมส์เยอะ คล้ายๆ casino แต่เจมส์มันบอกว่าไม่ใช่ casino เอาน่ะ เล่นเกมส์ฟรี แล้วเอา tickets ไปแลกของได้ ก็เลยเล่นสนุกๆ แล้วก็เอา points ทุกคนมารวมกัน ได้ตุ๊กตา black spider man มาตัวนึง กับของจุกจิกอีกสองอย่าง ที่สำคัญ ไอ้แมงมุมเนี่ยะ ตัวโตกว่าเราอีก ไม่รู้ความคิดใคร จะเอาไอ้ตัวนี้ เจมส์บอกจะเอาไปไว้บน cluster (เอาเลยเจมส์ ก่อนอื่นหาทางหอบขึ้นรถ กลับ Ruston ให้ได้ก่อนเหอะ Dr. Box ยังไม่เห็นนะเนี่ย)

ไม่รู้คืนนี้ใครจะได้นอนกับไอ้แมงมุม ที่แน่ๆ เราง่วงละ ไปนอนดีก่า

ยังคงอยู่ที่เรื่องกิน

พอดีกะว่าจะกำจัด แครอทกับหัวหอมให้หมดก่อนไปออสติน ก็เลยต้องหาเมนูใหม่

เมนูใหม่มากๆ คิดตั้งนานแหนะ (จริงๆ คือไม่รู้ว่าจะเรียกอะไร)

ประการแรก เอาข้าว หุงไว้ตั้งแต่เมื่อคืน ด้วยหม้อธรรมด๊าธรรมดา จับลงหม้อไปหนึ่งทัพพี แล้วใส่น้ำลงปาย แล้วก็ต้มๆ พอน้ำเดือดก็โยนทุกสิ่งทุกอย่างที่มีอยู่ในตู้เย็น นั่นคือ แครอท หัวหอม (หั่นแล้วนะ ไม่ใช่โยนไปทั้งหัว) ต้มๆ ไปแล้วก็นึกขึ้นได้ว่าควรมีโปรตีนด้วย ก็เลยเอาแฮมหั่นๆ แล้วโยนลงไป ตอกไข่ลงไปอีกฟอง คนๆๆ ใส่ซีอิ้วนิด พริกไทยหน่อย

แต่น แต๊น...มันคือ ข้าวต้มนั่นเอง เอ๊ะ หรือจะเรียกว่าโจ๊กดี คือมันเละๆ ชอบกล

Seems like there was nothing different for all values. The number of streams took no effect on Tesla.

หลังจากเรื่องกิน ก็มาต่อที่เรื่องกิน

พอดีวันนี้เห็นในตู้เย็นมีกะหล่ำกับเห็ดเหลืออยู่ มันเริ่มดำๆ ละ กลัวจะเสียก็เลยเอามาทำกิน มองซ้ายมองขวา ไม่รู้จะทำอะไรกิน ก็เลยผัดมาม่าซะเลย ทำซะสองห่อ ผัดสองกะทะ เพราะผักเหลือเยอะ

ยัง...ยังก่อน ในตู้ยังมีพริกแกงอีกกระป๋องหนึ่ง เปิดแล้ว แต่ยังใช้ไม่หมด กลัวมันขึ้นรา เลยเอามาใส่ด้วย กลายเป็นมาม่าผัดพริกแกง

ตอนแรกก็ต้มน้ำลวกเส้น ก็ลวกแบบสามนาที พอดีกิน เหมือนเวลาลวกมาม่าเฉยๆ ปรากฏว่า พอเอาไปผัด เส้นมันเลยเละไปหน่อย

และด้วยความอ่อนประสบการณ์ นอกจากพริกแกงแล้ว ก็เลยใส่ผงมาม่าลงไปด้วย กลัวมันไม่อาหย่อย ผลสุดท้ายก็เลยเค็ม - -'

ระหว่างที่ผัดมาม่าอยู่นั่นเอง ก็ถือโอกาสอบหมูแดงที่หมักไว้ไปพร้อมกันเลย ไม่เสียเวลา แต่อย่าคิดว่าทำไมไอ้นี่มันเก่งจัง ทำหมูแดงเป็นด้วย คือ มันมีผงโลโบสำเร็จอยู่น่ะ เอาไปละลายๆ แล้วก็หมักทิ้งๆ ไว้ แล้วก็อบ เสร็จละ (ขอบคุณโลโบ)

คือ มีหมูสับที่พี่นูนกับพี่จ๋าทิ้งไว้อยู่แพ็คนึง ก็เลยเอามาหมักๆ กับซ๊อส กระเทียม พริกไทย แหมะในถาดเป็นก้อนๆ แล้วเข้าเตาอบ แล้วก็เก็บใส่กล่อง แช่ตู้เย็น เวลาจะกินที ก็แบ่งมาเข้าไมโครเวฟ ก็ไม่เลวอยู่นะ

ส่วนผักต้มนี่คือ มีสารพัดผักมากมายที่พี่นูนกับพี่จ๋าทิ้งไว้เป็นมรดก ไม่รู้จะทำอะไร ก็เลยเอาทั้งหมดมาหั่นๆ แล้วโยนโครมลงในน้ำเดือดๆ ใส่ซีอิ้วนิด เกลือหน่อย พริกไทยเยอะๆ แต่ก็ยังออกมาจืด และที่สำคัญ ไม่มีไขมัน เพราะไม่มีเนื้อสัตว์เลย

เวลาจะกินที ก็ตั้งหม้อต้มให้เดือด แล้วตักใส่ชาม บางทีก็ตักใส่ข้าว เป็นข้าวต้มไปเลย ที่สำคัญ ยิ่งต้มยิ่งเละ คล้ายๆ จับฉ่ายจืดๆ ต้มจนไฟเบอร์ใกล้จะละลายหายไปในน้ำซุปอยู่แล้ว

ส่วนข้าวสวยนี่ พี่จ๋าสอนไว้ก่อนไป คือหม้อหุงข้าว พี่นูนแฮปไปแล้ว (แบ่งๆ กันตะหาก เราได้เยอะแล้วนิ) ก็เลยหุงด้วยหม้อต้ม หลักการเดียวกับหม้อหุงข้าวแหละ เพียงแต่ต้องคอยดูมันหน่อย เดี๋ยวมันจะแห้ง ส่วนน้ำก็กะๆ เอา ชิมแล้วแข็งๆ ก็เติมน้ำอีกหน่อย ถ้าน้ำเยอะไปก็ได้ข้าวต้มแหละ

เอาน่า กินๆ ไป มีกินก็ดีแล้วนิ

Day 219...Daylight Savings Times Ends

เมื่อเช้าตื่นขึ้นมา เปิดคอมด้วยความงวยงง ทำไมเราตื่นเช้าจังฟะ มองดูนาฬิกาปลุก ก็ปกตินิ จะเชื่อเครื่องไหนดีเนี่ยะ

แล้วก็มานึกขึ้นได้ Daylight saving นี่หว่า (แล้วก็ปรับนาฬิกาปลุก)

เปิดปฏิทินในคอม มันบอกว่า วันนี้เป็น Daylight savings time ends ทำไม end หว่า ก็เลยไปค้น มันบอกว่า ช่วงตั้งแต่ spring จนถึงสิ้นตุลา เวลาช่วงเช้ามันยาว ก็เลยปรับเวลาซะ เรียกว่า spring forward คือปรับเวลาเพิ่ม 1 ชั่วโมง พอเข้าหนาว เวลาช่วงเช้ามันสั้นลง ก็ปรับเวลาถอยหลังคืน 1 ชั่วโมง เรียกว่า fall back

daylight savings จะเริ่มทุกๆ วันอาทิตย์ที่สองของเดือนมีนา จนถึงวันอาทิตย์แรกของเดือนพฤศจิกา

วันนี้มันวันบ๊อง

หลังจากเมื่อเช้าน้าวหนาว พอตอนบ่ายชักเฉยๆ ละ อากาศวิปริต

ช่วงนี้เริ่มเห็นใบไม้เปลี่ยนสีมั่งแล้ว ถ้าว่าง และได้หิ้วกล้องออกไปถ่ายรูปข้างนอก คงได้เอามาอวดกัน

เรื่องของวันนี้ก็มีอยู่ว่า จะลงทะเบียนออนไลน์ ปรากฏว่ากดเข้าไปปุ๊บ ข้าพเจ้าติด holds อยู่เต็มไปหมด อันแรกเกี่ยวกับ diplomas ของข้าพเจ้าเอง มันบอกว่า missing ซึ่งจริงๆ ตอนสมัคร ก็ว่าให้เจ๊ที่ทำเรื่องถ่ายเอกสารไปหมดแล้วนะ สงสัยมันทำหาย ก็เลยต้องเอาไปให้มันถ่ายเอกสารใหม่อีกรอบ แล้วมันก็ unlock hold ให้หนึ่งอัน

อีกอันก็เป็น immunization หรือประวัติการฉีดยาของข้าพเจ้าเอง ซึ่งก็ไม่มีอะไรมาก แค่วิ่งเอาเอกสารที่เคยให้ รพ. จุฬาฯ ทำให้ไปยื่น แล้วเจ๊พยาบาลก็บอกว่า

"หนูยังขาดอีกเข็มนะ จะฉีดนี่มั้ย $10 หรือจะเซ็นว่า ถ้ามีโรคระบาด หนูต้องออกจากแคมปัส"

...ฉีดก็ฉีดดิ ก็เลยบอกไปว่า "งั้นฉีดนี่แหละ มาฉีดได้เมื่อไหร่ฮับ"

"เมื่อไหร่ก็ได้ ตอนนี้ก็มี"

"งั้นฉีดเลย"

เจ๊แกทำหน้าเหวอนิดนึง ประมาณว่า ไม่เก็บไปคิดหน่อยเหรอ...ไม่คิดแล้วอะ ทำให้เสร็จๆ เลยดีกว่า $10 ไม่แพงๆ

แล้วก็โดนไปหนึ่งเข็ม T_T

กลับมาที่แลปด้วยความเหนี่อยหน่าย unlock ไปได้สองอันแล้ว เหลืออีกสองอัน คือ plan of study กับรายชื่อ committee ต้องทำพร้อมกัน โอเค พรุ่งนี้จะไปปริ๊นท์เลย อาทิตย์หน้าจะได้ล่ารายชื่อ

อ้อ วันนี้ซองฮีขนของเข้ามาบางส่วนละ แต่ตัวยังไม่มา ยังไม่มีที่นอน ฯลฯ

เริ่มกันด้วยเรื่อง presentation เมื่อเช้า วิชา Dr. Box ไอ้เอ๋ทำได้ห่วยมาก เพราะแทบไม่ได้เตรียมตัว เรื่องที่จะพูดก็ยังไม่ค่อยรู้เรื่องเลย Dr. Box ก็คอยลุ้นคอนช่วยอยู่ เกือบแย่เอาเหมือนกัน ช่างมัน...ผ่านไปแล้ว

อีกเรื่องก็คือใน CAM 610 วิชาสัมมนา สนุกสนานเฮฮากันดี เพราะไม่เอาสาระอะไรมาก ประมาณว่า แนะนำตัว แล้วก็ทำอะไรเกี่ยวกับ research ไปบ้าง แล้วก็จะทำอะไรอีก Clayton พรีเซนต์เป็นคนที่สอง ส่วนผมพรีเซนต์เป็นคนที่หก แล้วก็พี่นูนต่อจากผม สำหรับผมผ่านไปได้ด้วย D

ที่ฮาสุดก็ต้องตอนพี่นูนพรีเซนต์ เพราะพี่นูนพูดจบอย่างรวดเร็ว (เขาให้สิบนาที พี่นูนบริโภคแค่สามนาทีได้มั้ง) Dr. Dai ก็เลยให้คุยเรื่องเมืองของตัวเองต่อ คือบางกอกนั่นเอง พี่นูนเริ่มด้วยเหตุการณ์ protest (เฮ้ย จะพูดทำไมฟะ) แล้ว Dr. Dai ก็เลยต้องถามว่า เมืองยูอะ มีที่เที่ยวอะไรน่าสนใจมั่ง ก็เลยว่ากันด้วยเรื่องวัดพระแก้ว กับภูเก็ต จากนั้นก็มีคำถามยิงมามากมาย ที่ฮาสุดก็คือ มีคนจีนถามเรื่องกระเทยไทย (รู้สึกเรื่องนี้จะดังมาก ใครๆ ก็ถามกัน) ก็ตอบไปว่า มีจริงนะเฟ้ย ไม่เชื่ออย่าลบหลู่

จบดีกว่า ไปเล่นเกมต่อ อิอิ

Day 215...HPCI Workshop

เช้านี้ไปเรียน ออกจากบ้าน หนาว ใส่เสื้อโค๊ตของหม่าม้า ปิดฮู้ดด้วย หนาวๆ

ตอนบ่าย ไม่ได้ทำอะไรเล้ย นั่งทำหน้าง่วงอยู่ใน HPCI Workshop แล้วก็ออกไปเดโมนิดนึง ไม่ได้เรื่อง

ไปดีก่า พรุ่งนี้มีอีก 2 presentations ต้องเตรียม โดน อ. box บีบคอ ให้เข็น result ออกมาด้วย ต้องส่ง email ไปถามชาวบ้านอีกละ แล้วก็มี term project อีก แบ่งเวลาไงดีหว่า

Day 213...Alone in -2 C!

It will reach 33 F tonight and also tomorrow night (from the weather forecast). It's so cold outside that I need to wear my mom's coat. However, there is no snow, just windy.

P Ja just left for New Jersey this early morning. So I have to be alone for 5 days since P Noon has left last Friday. But I don't feel lonely. I have so much things to do anyway. This week is a very very busy week.

Day 210...So Cold!

It rained last week. After that, it has been so cold. Sometimes, it reached 39 F (4 C). But don't worry. I have 2-3 blankets, 2 coats, 2 very light jackets, and a knit sweater.

These days, I am so busy. I have a lot of homework, presentations, my research, and my friend is going to move out. I will have to be alone for 5 days. That is not a big deal anyway. I will leave my roommate alone for a week in this November. Gonna go to Austin. :)

Day 205...Beware of Your Fingers

I cut my fingers while I was helping P Ja cooking this morning.

First, I cut my right ring finger when I chopped lattice but I did not mind it. And while I tried to chopped baby carrots which are round and small, I cut my right index finger again...What a heck?

Day 200...Flies Attack

ความจริงเวลาทำกับข้าว มันจะต้องมีเครื่องดูดควัน และลดกลิ่น โดยเฉพาะกับข้าวไทย กลิ่นแรงมากๆ แต่เครื่องดูดควันบ้านนี้มันออกแบบได้ติงต๊องมาก คือ ดูดจากตรงเตา แล้วไปปล่อยเหนือเตา - -'

ดังนั้น เราจึงต้องเปิดประตูหลังบ้าน เพื่อช่วยระบายอากาศแทน ผลก็คือ...

แมลงวันs (เติม s ด้วย เดี๋ยวไม่รู้ว่าหลายตัว)

ตอนนี้แมลงวันเต็มบ้านเลย กะคร่าวๆ น่าจะเกิน 20

ตอนกลางคืนมันจะขึ้นไปเกาะบนเพดาน แล้วเพดานก็ขาว จะเห็นแมลงวันเป็นจุดดำๆ ดั่งดาวดำดาษดื่นเต็มฟ้าขาว (ไม่ใช่ฟ้าครามนะ)

กำลังพยายามหาทางขับไล่แมลงวันอยู่ แต่ถ้าทำกับข้าวอีก ก็ต้องเปิดบ้านอีก แล้วมันก็เข้ามากันอีก ทำไงดี ใครก็ได้ช่วยบอกหน่อย

Day 196...Roommates

เมื่อกี้พี่ก้านกับซอง เพิ่งพาซองฮีมาดูอพาร์ตเมนต์

ซองฮีคือสาวเกาหลีที่คาดว่าจะมาอยู่กับเราแทนพี่จ๋า ซึ่งมีอันต้องพลัดพรากจากกันไป...เศร้า T_T

ซองฮีเป็นสาวเกาหลีน่าตาน่ารัก (เริ่มอิจฉาเราล่ะสิ) แต่เขาบอกว่าเขาทำกับข้าวไม่เก่ง คิดว่างานนี้ได้อดตายกันทั้งคู่แน่ๆ

แวะมาอัพเดตแค่นี้แหละ รอกินซูชิจากพี่จ๋าอยู่...พี่จ๋าของผม T_T

Day 194...SIX MONTHS!!

เผลอนิดเดียว นี่เราอยู่มาครึ่งปี (หน่อยๆ) แล้ว...โอ้ เวลาช่างผ่านไปรวดเร็วยิ่ง

ว่าแล้วก็ไม่รู้จะคุยอะไร เพราะมีแต่เรื่องเรียนกับที่อยู่

ช่วงนี้นอกจากเรียน ทำ research แล้วก็ยังต้องไปเฝ้า lab วันจันทร์ กับวันพุธ ตอนบ่ายๆ อีก ขอบอก...ในห้องหนาวชะมัด

เมื่อบ่าย (ก่อนไปเฝ้าห้อง lab) ก็ไปหา Dr. Dai มา Dr. Dai สอน PDE เรา แล้วพอดีทำการบ้านไม่ได้ก็เลยไปถาม Dr. Dai ใจดีโคตร ค่อยๆ บอก

บอกการบ้านเสร็จก็ถามว่า

"หนูมาจากเมืองไทยใช่มั้ย"

"ค่า"

"แล้วหนูว่า class เป็นไงมั่ง"

"ก็ดีค่า (จริงๆ นะ)"

"หนูเรียนตามไปได้ใช่มั้ย"

"ค่า"

ฉะนี้แล (จริงๆ ไม่มีอะไรจะเล่า เลยเอาอันนี้มาเล่าเรื่อยเปื่อย)

อ้อ ใน quarter นี้ Dr. Box บอกว่าเราน่าจะเข็นเปเปอร์ออกมาได้ซักฉบับ เพราะฉะนั้นตอนนี้ต้องรีบไปอ่านให้เยอะๆ ก่อน ไปละ

Day 187...My Situation

ตอนนี้กำลัง summary... summarize... ซำมาลุ้งๆๆ (เราบ้าไปแล้ว - -')
แล้วก็ทำการบ้าน...PDE
แล้วก็ทำ Term Paper กับ Term Project
และมีแนวโน้มว่าต้องเขียน proposal เร็วๆ นี้

แค่มาบอกว่าผมยังอยู่ค้าบ... มุดอยู่ใต้ผ้าห่ม เพราะช่วงนี้ชักหนาว หนาวแบบหน้าหนาวกรุงเทพน่ะ ยังไม่หนาวมาก แจ็คเก็ตตัวเดียวยังไหวยู้

Day 183...PDE Test 1

เมื่อวานมีสอบ PDE... ไม่ยาก แต่ทำไม่ทัน T_T

ข้อสอบมี 5 ข้อ ให้เวลา ชั่วโมงกับสิบห้านาที เป็นข้อละสิบห้านาที ทำไม่ทัน สุดท้ายทำเสร็จไปสามข้อ อีกสองข้อไม่เสร็จ ไม่รู้จะได้คะแนนเท่าไหร่ ไว้รอลุ้นกัน

Day 181...Blood Donation

หลังจากเรียนเสร็จ กินข้าวเสร็จ ไปซื้อโฟลเดอร์เสร็จ กะจะไปคุยกับ ISO เป็นเพื่อนพี่จ๋า ปรากฏว่า เดินผ่านที่รับบริจาคเลือด เลยไปเอาเลือดบ๊องออกซะ แทนที่จะไปเป็นเพื่อนพี่จ๋า พี่จ๋าเลยต้องอยู่เป็นเพื่อนเรา

ขั้นตอนการบริจาคก็เหมือนไทยเรานี่แล ไปถึงก็กรอกๆ เอกสาร ซักประวัติ ถามโน่นถามนี่ อันไหนไม่รู้จักไม่รู้เรื่องก็ถามเขาเอา แล้วก็วัดความดัน วัดอุณหภูมิร่างกาย แล้วก็เจาะนิ้ว

ตรงนี้ต่างจากบ้านเราหน่อย เขาเอาเลือดที่นิ้วเราไปหยดใส่ Copper sulfate ดูว่ามันจมหรือลอย ถ้ามันจมก็บริจาคได้เลย แต่ถ้ามันลอย เหมือนเลือดเรา ก็ต้องเอาไปเข้าเครื่อง เรียกว่าอะไรไม่รู้ แต่ค่าออกมาจะบอกว่าปริมาณเม็ดเลือดแดงเยอะพอบริจาครึเปล่า

เม็ดเลือดแดงเราพอ เลยต้องไปขึ้นเขียงเชือด

คุณพี่ที่รับหน้าที่เชือด เป็นผู้ชายผิวเกือบมืด (เลือดผสมนั่นเอง) ชื่อ Fabvius เขาบอกว่าชื่อเขามาจากภาษากรีก เพราะแม่ชอบอ่านนิทานกรีก แล้วชื่อเขาก็แปลว่า ความรัก (หวานซะไม่มีอะ)

ตอนเจาะเลือด กับตอนเอาเข็มออก ไม่เจ็บเท่าไหร่ ไม่ใช่เพราะคุณพี่เฟบมือเบาหรอก แต่เพราะคุณพี่เฟบเขามือไว

คุณพี่เฟบคุยเก่งมาก เจาะเลือดเราไปก็ชวนเรากับพี่จ๋าคุย เขาบอกว่าเขาเคยอยู่ Air Force มาก่อน เคยไปมาหลายประเทศ ล่าสุดเห็นว่าไปอิรัก เขาบอกว่าเขาอยู่ญี่ปุ่นตั้งหลายปี แล้วก็รู้จักคนไทยบ้าง พอพูดถึงไทยทีไร ไม่ว่าใครก็บอกว่าชอบอาหารไทยทั้งนั้น คุณพี่เฟบก็บอกอย่างนั้น เราก็เลยโฆษณาไปว่า พี่จ๋าทำกับข้าวไทยเป็น เขาก็เลยว่าต้องขอมาชิมบ้างแล้ว

คุยมาคุยไป ถูกคอ เขาก็เลยบอกว่าจะไว้จะส่งอีเมลมาคุย พอให้เลือดเสร็จ เขาก็จะมีผ้าก็อตแบบเหนียวๆ พันแขน แถมแต่ละสีที่ให้เลือกนี่สะท้อนแสงซะ มีทั้งแดง ม่วง เขียว เหลือง ฟ้า ประหนึ่งจะโชว์ให้คนทักเล่น (ซึ่งก็มีคนทักมากมายจริงๆ ขนาดเราเลือกสีฟ้านะเนี่ย) พี่จ๋าบอกว่า พันเหมือนแมวที่บ้านพี่จ๋าเลย คุณพี่เฟบเลยหัวเราะใหญ่

เสร็จแล้ว นอนพักนิดนึง พอตอนจะกลับ เขาก็เลยแจกเสื้อมาสองตัว ให้พี่จ๋าด้วย แทนที่จะให้เราตัวเดียว (หวังกับข้าวไทยรึเปล่าหว่า) แล้วก็เลยแลกอีเมลกัน

ให้เลือด ได้บุญ ได้เสื้อ แถมได้เพื่อนอีกคน สบายใจ

เมื่อคืนชวนเพื่อนๆ ชาวซาอุฯ มากินข้าวที่บ้าน นัดไว้สองทุ่ม แต่พวกมัน...สาย...หิวนะเฟ้ย - -'

เพื่อนๆ ที่มาก็มี โมฮัมเมด ยาซา (เรียกมันว่ายาซา เพราะคนชื่อโมฮัมเมดเยอะเหลือเกิน), โมยาด, แล้วก็ ไฮดาร์ คุยกับพวกนี้ก็สนุกดี มันเป็นมุสลิมที่โอเพ่นพอสมควร คือ ยอมรับความคิดของคนต่างศาสนาเหมือนกัน

เอาล่ะ เรื่องศาสนาเราไม่สนหรอก ที่เราสนใจคือบ้านเมืองมันต่างหาก ซึ่งทำให้เราเข้าใจว่า ทำไมพวกมันถึงรักประเทศกันนัก

คือ เมื่อคืน โมยาด show map บ้านเมืองมันที่ถ่ายจากดาวเทียมให้ดู บ้านมันเป็นเกาะ มีสะพานเชื่อมกับแผ่นดินใหญ่ ซึ่งเป็นบ้านไฮดาร์ (ส่วนยาซามันอยู่คนละเมือง คนละภูมิภาคเลย ของยาซาเป็นเมืองหลวง อ้อ ต้องบอกก่อนว่า บ้านเมืองมัน แค่คนละหมู่บ้านก็พูดกันคนละภาษาแล้ว อย่าว่าแต่คนละภูมิภาค ยังดีที่มีภาษามาตรฐานให้คุยกันได้) เราเห็นผังเมืองมันเป็นระเบียบมาก บางพื้นที่ยังโล่งๆ อยู่ โมยาดก็บอกว่า ตรงนี้เพิ่งถมทะเลเป็นแผ่นดิน ตรงนั้นก็เพิ่งถมเป็นแผ่นดิน บ้านมันก็อยู่บนพื้นที่ถม...อันนี้ยังไม่อึ้งเท่าไหร่

แล้วมันก็เลื่อนให้ดูว่า จากเกาะบ้านมันไปอีกติ๊ด ก็เป็น oil field มันจึงสันนิษฐานว่า บ้านมันคงอยู่บนอ่างน้ำมัน...อึ้งที่สอง ยังไม่เท่าไหร่

ไฮดาร์บอกว่า บ้านมันเป็นฟาร์มเลี้ยงสัตว์ (อันนี้ทำให้เราชักอยากไปเที่ยวบ้านมัน) ส่วนน้ำประปา ไม่ต้องห่วง ถูกมากๆ ทำมาจากน้ำทะเล...อันนี้เราอึ้งมาก เพราะเราเข้าใจว่า กว่าจะเอาน้ำทะเลมาทำเป็นน้ำจืด มันยาก น่าจะใช้งบสูง แต่อีนี่บอกว่าถูกมากๆ

ไฮดาร์ยังบอกอีกว่า มันไม่ต้องเสีย tax บ้านมันไม่มี tax รัฐบาลมันรวย...ดีวุ้ย ถ้ารัฐบาลเราไม่มีคอรัปชั่นคงรวยเหมือนกัน อาจจะไม่เท่าซาอุฯ (เพราะมันขายน้ำมันก็รวยละ) แล้วก็ไม่ต้องงด tax แบบนั้น แต่ประชาชนก็คงไม่ลำบาก เพราะบ้านเมืองเราทรัพยากรเพียบ ออกไปหน้าปากซอยก็ไม่ข้าวแกงกินแล้ว

อีกอย่าง ก่อนหน้านี้เรารู้มาว่า พวกซาอุฯ ที่มาเรียนที่นี่ ไม่ได้ใช้งบของตัวเองเลย ทุนรัฐล้วนๆ แค่มีข้อแม้ว่า แกต้องกลับมาทำงานให้ประเทศ พวกนี้บางคนเลยหอบลูกหอบเมียมาเรียนด้วยกันซะเลย

บ้านเมืองมันไม่มีเหล้าไม่มีแอลกอฮอล ถ้าจะมีต้องอยู่ใน area ที่จัดไว้เฉพาะ แล้วก็เน้นขายชาวต่างชาติ เพราะคนบ้านมันไม่กิน แล้วก็ ถ้าใครเอาเหล้าออกจาก area นั้น ถึงจะเอากลับไปกินที่บ้านก็เหอะ ถูกจับนะคร้าบ

ไฮดาร์บอกว่า บ้านเมืองมันไม่มีโจรกับขโมย มันให้เหตุผลว่า เพราะประเทศมันรวย...แต่เราว่า เพราะกฏหมาย (หรือ constitute ที่มันใช้ปกครองประเทศ) มันเคร่งครัดมากกว่า ไม่น่าจะเกี่ยวกับความรวยความจนของประเทศหรอก

พอถามถึงความรุนแรงในบ้านเมืองมัน ไอ้พวกนี้ส่ายหน้าบ่นใหญ่เลย มันบอกว่าข่าวที่ออกไปมีแต่บอกว่ามุสลิมหัวรุนแรง จริงๆ แล้วแค่กลุ่มเดียว บ้านมันออกจะสงบ ไม่มีปัญหาอะไรกับใคร...เออ ก็จริง ซาอุฯ ไม่เห็นมีข่าวแนวนี้

บอกแล้วว่ามุสลิมไม่ได้เลวร้าย พวกที่เลวร้ายคือพวกที่หาผลประโยชน์จากศาสนามากกว่า แล้วก็มาปั่นพวกนี้ให้คล้อยตามในทางที่ผิด

ว่ากันไปว่ากันมา หันมาดูบ้านเมืองเรา เขาว่าเป็นเมืองแห่งพระพุทธศาสนา ที่เป็นศาสนาแห่งเหตุผลแท้ๆ แต่ดันไม่เอาหลักศาสนามาใช้ อายบ้านอื่นเมืองอื่นเขามั้ยเนี่ย

Day 174...New Friends

P Ja and I joined the movie night at ELS 2 couple of hours ago. We found Bill there and he told us to go to BCM. There are a lot of interesting activities, i.e., meet a conversation partner. So we were there after the movie.

Once we were there, a gave us blue cards to write our information in order to change with our partnet. But after that, I have got 2 cards which means I have 2 partners.

They are girls for sure, and they are so cute. They are freshmen in Tech but I don't feel old when I was talking to them. I'm young actually. :D

Okey, it's so late now. I'd better go to bed.

Day 172...About These Days II

อ่านกันแทนข้าวเลย...

วันนี้ท่าจะดวงไม่ดี นั่งเรียนอยู่โดน case (ที่วางไว้ใต้โต๊ะแบบ unstably) ตกใส่นิ้วโป้งเท้า เจ็บโคตร ไม่รู้จะช้ำป่าวเนี่ย รอดูอาการอยู่

หลังจาก hurricanes (ใส่ s เพราะมันมากกว่าหนึ่งลูก) เฉียดผ่านไป อากาศก็เย็นลง ตอนแรกก็เย็นดีหรอก 70 ก่าๆ ยังไหว ทำไปทำมามันกลายเป็นเย็นยะเยือก เหลือประมาณ 60 หน่อยๆ เรากับพี่จ๋าหาเสื้อหาผ้าห่มมาห่อตัวกันทั้งวัน แต่พี่นูนบอก แค่เย็นๆ ... เออ ไม่อ้วนมั่งก็แล้วไป (เอ๊ะ ไม่อ้วนก็ดีแล้วไม่ใช่เหรอ??)

ไม่มีอะไรละ มาบอกแค่นี้แหละ ต้องไปอ่านเปเปอร์ต่อ

ดับนานซะด้วย น่าจะกว่าครึ่งชั่วโมงได้ กะว่าถ้าดับนานกว่านี้คงจะได้นอนแต่สามทุ่มละ คิดว่ามันคงเป็นผลมาจากเจ้า Ike มั้ง แล้วช่วงนี้ก็มี Tornado watch อยู่เรื่อยๆ ตื่นเต้นดีเหมือนกัน

Day 168...$1 Lunch and CMS Moving

หลังจากเปิดเทอมมาได้สัปดาห์นึง การบ้านเพียบ...

เมื่อวานพอดีได้ไปกินกลางวันแบบอิ่มจังตังอยู่ครบ ที่ลานน้ำพุ (Lady of the Mist) เป็นกลุ่ม Wesley Foundation เขามาจัดเพื่อโฆษณา จริงๆ Wesley นี่เขาจะมีมื้อกลางวันแบบนี้ทุกวันพฤหัสฯ ที่รังของเขา (เป็นบ้านน่ารักๆ ติดกับตึก Business) พวกนี้เป็นกลุ่มนักเรียนที่นับถือคริสต์นิกายอะไรจำไม่ได้ เขาจะได้ fund มาจัดกิจกรรมมากมาย เราก็ไปเพราะจะกินของถูก และได้รู้จักคนเยอะดี

มันจะมีอีกกลุ่มหนึ่งอยู่ใกล้ๆ กับ Nethken Hall (lab เรา) ชื่อว่า BCM เป็นพวกนิกาย Baptist ก็จะมีมื้อเที่ยงหนึ่งบัคแบบนี้เหมือนกันแต่เป็นวันอังคาร ยังไม่เคยไปกินเหมือนกัน ว่าจะลองอยู่

แว่วๆ ว่าวันพุธก็มีอีกที่นึง แต่ไม่รู้ว่าที่ไหน

เล่าต่อ...เมื่อวานที่ไปกิน ก็เจอ Calvin ที่เคยรู้จักกันมาแล้วก่อน summer เล่าย่อๆ ก็คือ เรารู้จักหมอนี่จาก Raul แล้วก็ David ที่เรียน ELS ด้วยกัน สองคนนี้เขาสอนภาษาสแปนิชให้เคลวิน เพราะเคลวินเรียนเอกนี้อยู่ เจออีกทีก็จำได้ (จริงๆ เราจำชื่อมันไม่ได้หรอก แต่ได้ยินมันแนะนำตัวเองกับคนอื่น เลยอ๋อขึ้นมา) ก็เลยนั่งคุยนิดหน่อย แล้วก็เลยไปรู้จักเพื่อนเขาอีกคนหนึ่ง ชื่อ David เหมือนกัน (คนละ David กับข้างบนนะ) รายนี้สายตาแกมีปัญหา ไม่รู้มองเห็นได้ขนาดไหน เวลาคุยกับเรา เขาจะไม่มองหน้า แล้วก็ถือไม้นำทางอันนึง ขอบอก แกโคตรบ้าพลังเลย ตอนเลิกงานก็ช่วยเขาเก็บโต๊ะด้วย

คือที่เมืองนี้จะเห็นคนตาบอดเดินไปเดินมาอยู่บ่อยๆ เพราะมี Center of the blind ถึงสองแห่ง (ไม่รู้สองแห่งนี้มันเกี่ยวข้องยังไงกันรึเปล่า) แล้วก็มีอุปกรณ์อำนวยความสะดวกสำหรับคนพิการโดยทั่วไป เราเคยเห็นคนตาบอดกลุ่มนึงเดินข้ามถนนตรงทางม้าลาย ตรงนั้นมันไม่มีเสียงสัญญาณบอกให้คนข้ามนะ แต่ไม่รู้เขาทำยังไงถึงข้ามได้พอดีกับไฟแดง เราก็ยังไม่เคยถามใครซะที

จบเรื่องเมื่อวาน เอาเรื่องวันนี้ต่อ

หลังเรียนเสร็จ เราไปที่แล็บ เพราะต้องไป move clusters กองหนึ่ง ที่เป็น CMS demo ของตา Matt มาไว้ที่แล็บเรา เพราะเราต้องรับผิดชอบต่อจาก Matt ซึ่งเพิ่งจะจบไป James กับพี่นูนก็มาช่วย แต่เรา guilty มากๆ เลย เพราะ James มาช่วยแล้วได้แผลด้วย เราก็โดนไปนิดนึง แต่ไม่ถึงกับเลือดอาบ แถมเรายังทำน้ำหกนิดนึงด้วย เพราะขวดน้ำที่เราแบกไปมันปิดไม่สนิท ดีที่หกลงพื้น ไม่โดนเครื่อง แต่...หนูเสียใจอะ

หมดเรื่องเล่าละ เดี๋ยวจะไปกินข้าวบ้านพี่ก้านต่อ คงกลับดึกแน่ๆ การบ้านคงต้องไว้ทำพรุ่งนี้ซะแล้ว

Day 164...About These Days

ช่วงนี้ไม่มีอะไรเท่าไหร่ เช้าก็ไปเรียน แล้วก็กลับมากินข้าวเที่ยง บ่ายก็ทำการบ้านมั่ง ทำ research มั่ง เพียงแต่บ่ายวันนี้มีประชุมกับอาจารย์ Box แล้วก็คนอื่นๆ อาจารย์ Box จะให้ประชุมกันแบบนี้ทุกอาทิตย์ เพื่อติดตามงาน

อ้อ เทอมนี้ลงวิชาเรียน 2 ตัว คือ PDE (Partial Differential Equations) เรียนกับ Dr. Dai มี James, Clayton แล้วก็พี่นูนลงด้วย อีกวิชาก็ Software Engineering เป็น Advanced Topics เรียนกับ Dr. Box วิชานี้ classmate ที่รู้จักก็มี Moayad คนเดียว แล้วก็ต้องทำ Term paper กับ Term project ด้วย ไม่รู้จะเป็นยังไงมั่ง

Day 160...School Starts

เปิดเทอมแล้วจ้า...

วันนี้เรียนวันแรก เรียนกับ Dr. Box บอกตามตรงว่าง่วงเ
หมือนกัน เมื่อคืนนอนดึกไปหน่อย (สี่ทุ่มครึ่ง เหอๆ) เรียนวันแรกเป็น Introduction ก็ไม่ค่อยมีอะไร ไม่มีการบ้าน แต่คิดว่าอีกซักพักงานคงเยอะ เพราะมีทั้ง Term paper แล้วก็ Term project ต้องลุยแหลกเท่านั้นแหละ

ส่วน Garfield ก็ยังหาเรื่องอ้วนเหมือนเดิม

Day 158...Orientation in The Storm

จริงๆ ฝนมันตกมาตั้งแต่เมื่อคืนแล้ว Hurricane Gustav เข้า แต่เราโดนแค่หางๆ นะ เฉียดๆ เพราะอยู่ทางเหนือของ Louisiana เขาบอกว่าเมื่อคืนไฟดับตอนสี่ห้าทุ่ม หนูไม่รู้ หนูนอนแล้ว - -'

เมื่อเช้าตื่นมา เปิดไฟห้องน้ำ...ไม่ติด เลยต้องถือไฟฉายแปรงฟัน

พอจะลงมาหาอะไรกิน กำลังคิดว่าจะทำยังไงดี ไฟดับ ปิ้งขนมปังไม่ได้ ก็บังเอิญได้ยินเสียงตู้เย็นติดขึ้นมา เลยได้ปิ้งขนมปังกิน พอกินเสร็จ มันดับอีกรอบ

มาติดเอาอีกทีตอนกำลังจะออกไป orientation เยี่ยมจริงๆ

ออกจากบ้าน ถือร่ม เผชิญพายุโหมกระหน่ำ (เวอร์ไป แค่ลมแรงเฉยๆ หรอก) แต่ร่มเรายังเอาไหวอยู่ เป็นร่มที่ซื้อมาจากจีน...ใครว่าของจีนไม่ดี ฮึ

Orientation จริงๆ มันคือ International Orientation ไม่ได้เกี่ยวกับเราเล้ย แต่เราก็เนียน หนูเป็น International student ค่า เลยได้ของแจก ได้กินฟรี...อิ่ม อ้อ ได้เพื่อนใหม่ด้วย

เห็นคนที่ไปมีหลายชาติหลายภาษา แต่ส่วนมากเป็นอินเดียกับเนปาล มันเยอะจริงๆ นะ ปาเข้าไปสองในสามได้ แต่ไม่ได้คุยนะ คุยกับจีนมากกว่า เพราะนั่งกินอยู่โต๊ะเดียวกัน

ตอนเย็น ประมาณสามโมงครึ่ง ฝ่าพายุไป Mini-Orientation อีก พอออกไปปุ๊บ จะข้ามทางรถไฟ รถไฟก็มา ต้องรอมันไปก่อน ท่ามกลางพายุถาโถม (เวอร์อีกแล้ว) พอไปถึงหน้าห้อง ก็มีป้ายแปะว่า จะมี Mini-Orientation วันนี้เวลา 4 โมงเย็น เรามองนาฬิกา สี่โมงแล้วห้องก็ไม่เปิด สี่โมงสิบห้าแล้วก็ไม่เห็นหมาซักตัว กลับดีกว่า ฝ่าพายุอีกรอบ ชิ พวกอเมริกัน

Day 155...Go Dawgs!

เมื่อวาน เอก มน พี่ก้าน แล้วก็ น้องวาว (นักเรียน ELS คนใหม่ เพิ่งมาได้เดือนเดียว) มากินข้าวที่บ้าน เนื่องในโอกาสขึ้นบ้านใหม่ (จริงๆ แล้วเนื่องในโอกาสแนะนำน้องวาวต่างหาก) มนก็เลยบอกว่า วันนี้จะมีแข่ง American football เราก็เลยตั้งใจจะไปดู

ฟุตบอลเริ่มตอน 5:45 PM Louisiana Tech U เจอกับ Mississippi State U เราไปถึงที่นั่นก็เอาบัตรนักเรียนไปแลกตั๋วเข้า กับพัดรูปตีนหมา ก่อนเข้าก็แวะซื้อน้ำไปขวดนึงด้วย พี่นูนเลี้ยง (เลยได้อุทาหรณ์ว่า ไปดูกีฬาควรพกน้ำไปด้วย เพราะมันแพง) แล้วก็เข้าไปดู จริงๆ บนอัฒจรรย์มันเป็นที่นั่งแบบขั้นบันได แต่ปรากฏว่า ทุกคนยืน...มันลุ้นน่ะ ก็เลยยืนกันหมด เราก็ยืนด้วย ดูๆ ไป ตอนแรกๆ ก็ไม่รู้เรื่อง เพราะไม่เคยดู American football มาก่อน พี่นูนก็เลยอธิบายคร่าวๆ เท่าที่เขารู้ ซึ่งก็ค่อยได้อะไรเท่าไหร่ มารู้เรื่องก็อีตอนเขาเฮ เราก็เฮนั่นแหละ เลยเก็ทขึ้นมาว่า อ๋อ จังหวะนี้เราได้เปรียบ พอเราเสียเปรียบ ก็จะปรากฏคำที่ต้องเซ็นเซอร์...ปิ๊บ แล้วก็บางที มันตะโกนเชียร์คำว่าอะไรไม่รู้ เราก็ว่าจะสะกิดถามคนข้างๆ แต่เห็นมันบ้าอยู่ ก็เลยไม่เอาดีกว่า

American football ช่างเป็นเกมที่ใช้คนเล่นเยอะมาก เห็นในสนามส่วนหนึ่ง ข้างสนามอีกเป็นฝูง ประมาณดูเกิน 50 แน่ๆ มาช่วง quarter แรก ก็เชียร์กันไป มีแรงอยู่ก็เชียร์ไป โดนนำก็ยังเชียร์ พอ quarter สอง เสียงเริ่มแผ่ว เพราะ MS State มันทำ touchdown ได้ แล้วเริ่มนำห่าง แต่พอพักปุ๊บ มา quarter สาม Tech ได้ field goal แถมทำ touchdown ได้อีกเลยกลับมานำ จากนั้นแต้มก็ไหลเรื่อยๆ ท้าย quarter สี่ คนเล่นชักเจ็บกันเยอะ เกมอืดๆ มันจะไม่เหมือน soccer ตรงที่ ถ้ามีบาดเจ็บ มีคนนอน เวลาจะหยุด quarter นี่ก็เลยใช้เวลาเยอะมาก แต่คนก็ยังเชียร์กันอยู่ ไม่หนีไปไหน เพราะ Tech ชนะ 22:14 อิอิ สุดท้ายแล้วเราเลยได้กลับบ้านตอนสามทุ่มครึ่ง

เกมก็สนุกดี แต่บรรยากาศรอบๆ สนามสนุกกว่า เด็ก Tech ส่วนมากใส่เสื้อยืดพื้นสีน้ำเงิน เป็นสีของ Tech บางคนก็ไม่ได้ใส่เสื้อ เพราะพี่แก paint ตัวเอา เห็นมีอยู่กลุ่มนึง paint ตัวสีน้ำเงิน แล้วก็เขียนตัวอักษรสีแดงขอบขาวตัวโตๆ พอมายืนรวมกันก็อ่านได้ว่า "GO DAWGS!" ไม่ต้องสงสัยว่าคำนี้มันศัพท์บ๊องอะไร มันคือคำว่า "GO DOGS!" น่ะแหละ แต่เขียนให้มันแฟนซีขึ้นเท่านั้น อย่างที่เคยบอก สัตว์สัญลักษณ์ของ Tech ก็คือบูลด็อก ทุกคนที่อยู่ที่นี่จึงเป็นหมาบูลด็อกกันหมด ก็มันตะโกนกันว่า "We are bulldogs!" นิ ข้างสนามนอกจากจะมี cheer leader น่ารักๆ ต่อตัวกันแล้ว ก็ยังมี mascot เป็นตัวบูลด็อกเดินไปเดินมา มี staff โยนเสื้อขึ้นมา (รับไม่ได้ซักตัว) โยนลูกหนำเลี้ยบ (บอลที่เล่นกันใน American football น่ะแหละ) ลูกเล็กๆ สีน้ำเงินขึ้นมา พี่นูนเก็บได้ลูกนึงก็เลยให้เรา...ขอบคุณค่ะ

อีกอย่างที่ได้จากบรรยากาศรอบสนามก็คือ ไอ้คนข้างหน้าสองคน (หน้าตาคล้ายๆ กัน สงสัยจะเป็นแฝด) พอ Tech ทำ advance ได้ แบบไกลๆ แกทั้งสองก็จะแปะมือกับคนรอบข้างทุกคน เราอยู่หลังพวกมันพอดี เลยแปะด้วย...รู้จักกันเหรอ?

เสียดายที่เราไม่มีกล้อง ไม่งั้นจะถ่ายรูปมาให้ดู โอ๊ะ...ไม่แน่ อาจจะขอจาก Reggy ได้ เจอมันอยู่ มันถ่ายรูปเราให้ด้วยแหละ

Day 153...New Apartment

Now I'm in my new apartment which has 2 floors, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms. But I still have to share the room with P Ja because another room belongs to P Noon. That means there are three of us sharing the same apartment. Since we've just moved, I'm so tired of cleaning it.

Anyway, I'd love y'all seeing these comics.

Day 149...Altogether

พี่ก้านกลับมาแล้ว...มาพร้อม Song รูมเมทพี่ก้าน มี Chucky, Alex, Emily ไปรับ (รายชื่อทั้งหมดที่กล่าวมาเป็นเกาหลี)

พอ Song กลับมาถึงปุ๊บ มันก็แทบลมจับ สภาพห้องมันเละมาก เพราะก่อนหน้านี้มันให้ Alex (อีกคน) กับ Joon อยู่ชั่วคราว ซึ่งเวลานี้สองคนนั้นมันไปเริงร่าอยู่ New York แล้ว ตอนนี้คงกำลังจามกันสนั่น เพราะ Song มันบ่นถึงอยู่

นักเรียนไทยครบแล้ว ตอนนี้ก็รออาจารย์ไทย Dr. Box จะกลับมาต้นเดือนล่ะ

เด็กบ้านี่ จินตนาการบรรเจิดอีกแล้ว มันคิดว่ามีสัตว์ประหลาดอยู่ใต้เตียง พอเปิดไฟก็จัดการสัตว์ประหลาดได้ แล้วมันก็ดันคิดไปอีกว่าอาจจะมีสัตว์ประหลาดในที่อื่นๆ อีก ก็เลยรื้อข้าวของออกมาเป็นการใหญ่ ป๊ะป๋าก็เลยเข้ามาดุซะ...อ้อ เจ้าเสือข้างๆ เคลวิน จริงๆ เป็นแค่ตุ๊กตา แต่ด้วยจินตนาการอันไร้ขอบเขตของเด็กบ้านี่ ตุ๊กตาเสือก็เลยกลายเป็นคู่หูที่พูดได้ เล่นได้ ทำอะไรก็ได้...ตอนเด็กๆ ใครมีคู่หูแบบนี้มั่ง ยกมือขึ้น

Day 147...Apartment Hunting (Part III) Cont.

ยังคงตามหาอพาร์ตเมนต์ใหม่อยู่ หลังจากเมื่อตอนบ่ายได้รับคำตอบจาก Steeple's Glen ว่า มันไม่ approved เนื่องจากมันบอกว่ามันไม่สามารถติดต่อเจ้าของ apartment ที่เราเคยอยู่ได้ (โทรไปแล้วไม่มีคนตอบรับ) และเราก็ไม่มี credit history

เพิ่งรู้ว่าเราไม่มีเครดิต

จริงๆ อยากจะถามมันว่ามันติดต่อเจ้าของอพาร์ตเมนต์เดิมของเราจริงรึเปล่า เพราะเราโทรไปทีไร ก็มีคนรับทุกที อีกอย่างเราเพิ่งเป็นนักเรียนใหม่ มาจากต่างประเทศ มันเอาอะไรมาวัดเครดิตเรา (ฟะ)

ช่างมัน ยังมีอีกหลายที่ยังไม่ได้โทรไป ถ้าหาที่ใหม่ไม่ได้จริงๆ ก็อยู่หอพักในยู เท่านั้นเอง มาดูการ์ตูนกันดีกว่า

Day 144...My Friends Have Been Back

I've just got my student ID this morning. :D

Yesterday, Aig and Monn came back from Thailand. Their flight had stopped at Hawaii, so they enjoyed Hawaii's beach for 6-7 hours. They told me that the sea water was so clear.

P Noon just has been back for a couple of hours. He had dinner with us and walked to his old apartment. He will stay there until the end of this month. Then we will move to Steeple's Glen.

Finally, all of them have new haircuts.

End up with Garfield.

Diary 143...Garfield Strip

วันนี้มาในแนวการ์ตูน พร้อมกับอากาศเย็นๆ

พอดีไปเจอเว็บการ์ตูนมา เป็นพวก Garfield อะไรพวกนี้ ก็เลยคิดว่าเอามาแปะให้อ่านกันเล่นๆ แก้ blog ว่างดีกว่า



อันนี้การ์ฟิลด์ช่วยอัดเจ้าแมงมุมที่กำลังมีปัญหาครอบครัว มีลูกตั้ง 342 ตัว แถมยังเป็นวัยรุ่นกันหมดด้วย ประมาณว่าหนูกำลังอยากตายจ้า เจ้าแมงมุมก็เลยขอบคุณซะ

Day 140...Apartment Hunting (Part III)

สืบเนื่องจาก apartment ที่อยู่ปัจจุบันมีห้องนอนเดียว ห้องน้ำเดียว เรากับพี่จ๋าเลยต้องอยู่แบบสามีภรรยา นอนห้องเดียวกัน เรากับพี่จ๋าจึงคิดจะหย่ากันโดยไปเช่า apartment ใหม่ที่มีสองห้องนอน (ซึ่งความจริง ตอนนู้นก็จะเอาแบบสองห้องนอน แต่มันหาไม่ได้)

เราเคยไปดูที่ Tech Town ซึ่งราคาถูก ไกลนิดนึง สองห้องนอน หนึ่งห้องน้ำ ท่าทางดี แต่อย่างว่า ของดีราคาถูกก็มีแต่คนอยากได้ เราก็เลยไม่ได้

วันนี้เลยไปดู Steeple's Glen ใกล้ๆ apartment ที่อยู่นี่แหละ แต่เป็นสี่ห้องนอน ห้องน้ำในตัว ลักษณะเหมือนทาวน์เฮาส์ ราคาพอหารออกมาก็ไม่แพง เพียงแต่เราต้องรับผิดชอบค่า utilities ทั้งหมด (ตอนนี้ที่อยู่คือจ่ายเฉพาะค่าไฟกับค่าเน็ต)

เอาน่า...ใกล้ที่เรียน ใกล้ supermarket หยวนๆ ละกัน

Day 136...I'm a Bulldog

Yesterday, it was rain all night...

เมื่อคืนฝนตกทั้งคืน...

The trains also passed all day and all night...

รถไฟก็วิ่งกันทั้งวันทั้งคืน...

These days, they passed here as if they were parade. And anytime they passed, they had to whistle loudly. It's gonna drive me crazy.

ช่วงนี้ไม่รู้เป็นอะไร ตั้งแต่ต้นเดือนมาแล้ว รถไฟวิ่งกันอย่างกับพาเหรด มากันแต่ละทีก็ต้องเปิดหวูดดังลั่น ยิ่งสองวันนี้ฝนตก เวลานอนก็เปิดหน้าต่างไว้ ยิ่งได้ยินเสียงรถไฟดังกระหึ่ม ชวนประสาทเสียจริงๆ

I went to pay the tuition this morning. That means I've officially been a Tech's student. And the mascot of Tech is a bulldog, so I can say I'm a bulldog. (If you cannot imagine what a bulldog looks like, think of a dog with wrinkle face and usually has a big spike collar.)

เมื่อเช้า เดินไปจ่ายค่าเรียนแล้ว เพราะฉะนั้นตอนนี้เราก็ถือว่าเป็นนักเรียนที่ Tech อย่างเป็นทางการ เรียกว่าเราก็คือ bulldog ตัวหนึ่ง ไม่ได้อยากเป็นหมาหรอก แต่ที่ Tech นี้มีสัญลักษณ์เป็นหมา bulldog อะไรๆ ก็ bulldog (ถ้านึกหน้าตาหมา bulldog ไม่ออก ก็นึกถึงหมาหน้าย่นๆ ใส่ปลอกคอหนามอันเขื่องละกัน)

Day 135...Rainy Days

เช้าวันนี้ตื่นมาพบกับอากาศขมุกขมัว ฟ้าครึ้มมาแต่เช้า อากาศเลยเย็นๆ

สายหน่อย พี่จ๋ากะจะไปฝังตัวอยู่ในห้องสมุด แต่ปรากฏว่าห้องสมุดปิด Tolliver Hall ก็ปิด ศูนย์คอมก็ปิด (ถ้าเป็นช่วงเปิดเทอม มันจะเปิดกระทั่งวันอาทิตย์) พี่จ๋าเลยกลับมาบ้านพร้อมกับบอกว่า ข้างนอกฝนตก แต่ตกแบบ เดินไปสามก้าวค่อยเจอเม็ดฝนหล่นใส่หัวซักหยดนึง

สรุปแล้ววันนี้อากาศเย็นเพราะฝนเท ดีแฮะ อยากให้เป็นแบบนี้ไปหลายๆ วัน ก่อนหน้านี้มันร้อนอะ

Day 132...Anthony's Apartment

สองสามวันก่อน รู้สึกปวดหลัง ตรงแถวๆ ปีกขวา (เราเรียกมันว่าปีก เพราะไม่รู้ว่าจริงๆ แล้วมันเรียกอะไร มันคือบริเวณกระดูกด้านหลัง ใต้บ่าน่ะ) ตอนนี้ดีขึ้นแล้ว คิดว่าคงเป็นเพราะแบกหนู MacBook อันหนักอึ้งไป lab ตอนนี้ก็เลยเปลี่ยนเป็นอุ้มไปแทน จริงๆ ไอ้ปวดหลังแบบนี้ก็เคยเป็นตอนที่แบกน้อง Fujitsu ตัวเก่าเมื่อประมาณห้าหกปีก่อนเหมือนกัน แล้วอาการก็หายไปเมื่อเราเปลี่ยนเป็นอุ้มแทน เพราะฉะนั้นเราจะพยายามไม่แบกอะไรไว้บนหลังอีกแล้ว (เดี๋ยวแก่ลงกว่านี้จะยิ่งแย่)

วันนี้ Anthony (เพื่อนชาวกาบอง) โทรมาชวนไปเที่ยวบ้าน เพราะแม่กับน้องมันมา เลยอยากอวดเพื่อน ก็เลยหิ้วแอ๊ปเปิ้ลที่เพิ่งซื้อเมื่อวานไปฝากหม่ามี้มันด้วย จริงๆ แล้วหม่ามี้มันก็อายุไม่มากกว่าเราเท่าไหร่ Anthony มันก็เป็นลูกคนโต อายุน้อยกว่าเราเกือบสิบปีได้ (มันตั้งใจจะเรียน undergraduate program ที่ Tech) หม่ามี้มันก็คงจะสี่สิบหน่อยๆ เลยได้กินข้าวเย็น (สลัดเย็น กับขนมปังเย็น) ที่โน่น อิ่มจังตังอยู่ครบไปอีกมื้อนึง

Day 130...In the Lab

หลังจากสุดสัปดาห์อันแสนหฤโหดกับอุณหภูมิชนปรอท สองวันนี้อากาศเป็นยังไงไม่รู้เพราะหมกตัวอยู่ที่ Lab ตลอด ช่วงนี้ต้องช่วย James (ฝรั่งขี้บ่น) ทำงานให้ Dr. Box ซึ่งก็คือการเตรียม Power Point กับ Demonstration ให้ Dr. Box ไป present ที่เมืองไทย ตอนนี้เราทำส่วนที่ James ให้ทำเรียบร้อยแล้ว ไม่รู้จะเป็นไงมั่ง

Day 127...Severe Weather

หลังจาก 100 F ผ่านไป อากาศก็เปลี่ยนเป็นฝนตกฟ้าคะนอง ทั้งๆ ที่แดดเปรี้ยง ซักพักมีลมกรรโชกแรง แดดก็หุบ แล้วลมก็พัดถังขยะขนาดมหึมาหน้า apartment ล้มลง ข้างล่างนี่เป็น alert ที่ขึ้นในเว็บ weatherbug.com (ที่นี่ถ้าอากาศเปลี่ยน ลมพัดนิดพัดหน่อยมันก็จะ alert ละ)

Day 127...Heat Attack!

ในที่สุด อุณหภูมิที่ Ruston ก็เหยียบ 100 F จนได้ (ประมาณ 38 C ถ้ามันถึง 104 F เมื่อไหร่ก็ 40 C เมื่อนั้น) จากเมื่อสี่เดือนก่อนตอนที่มาใหม่ๆ เป็นช่วงต้น Spring อากาศหนาวตับหด (มีแต่เราที่รู้สึกแบบนั้นน่ะ) แต่ตอนนี้ทั้งตับทั้งไตแลบออกมาหมดแล้ว ยังดีที่มีแอร์ ไม่งั้นละลายแน่ๆ

อนึ่ง...เนื่องจากช่วงนี้เริ่มเบื่ออาหารฝีมือตัวเอง (และเบื่อแครอทกับหัวหอม) ดังนั้นจึงเริ่มซื้ออาหารแช่แข็งมากิน (จริงๆ เนื้อสัตว์ก็แช่แข็งหมดแหละ ส่วนผักก็มีทั้งแช่และไม่แช่ รู้สึกว่าแช่แข็งจะถูกกว่าด้วยมั้ง) เอาเข้า microwave นิดนึง ก็ enjoy กับอาหารแช่แข็งมื้อละ 1 buck ถูกดีเหมือนกัน ส่วนรสชาติ ต้องมาลองกันเอง เพราะลิ้นเราจระเข้

Day 125...OSCAR Cluster

I have spent these two days with James to install OSCAR cluster for CMS (Cluster Management System) testing. It just finished today. We had failed to install it yesterday because we had tried to install version 5 on CentOS 4. And it had taken a long time to install CentOS 5 over the stupid network. Now it is working though. The next problem is ... where should these machines sit?

Today I went to the office of registrar 3 times. Just to get the B.O.S.S account and register for the classes online. Anyway I still have a problem with the tuition. I will go to see someone there again tomorrow. Wish me luck!

Day 123...New Experience and New Thai Student

Today I had an appointment with James to install OSCAR. First, we had to install CentOS. James tried to install it via NFS but it failed. Then he tried to install via HTTP. It also failed. He tried to install with the only first CD (CentOS needs 4 CDs for installing with CD) and unchecked all packages, which means he tried to install only the OS. It also failed because it required the second and third CDs. Finally we needed to download and burn the CDs and try again tomorrow. :(

Today so, I heard from P Ja that there is a new Thai student in the ELS center. She is a girl. P Ja have not seen her but she knew from her friends. By the way, we will take her to Dr. Box's office.

Now I have to go review papers that I have just got from Dr. Box today and I have to return it on Thursday. These papers are about Mobile Ad-hoc Networks.

Day 120...Onions and Baby Carots

ตั้งแต่มาอยู่ที่นี่ ก็ต้องทำกับข้าวกินเอง และส่วนประกอบหลักของกับข้าวก็คือ...หัวหอมกับแครอท!

มันช่างเป็นสารอาหารที่หาได้ง่าย ทำอาหารได้หลายอย่าง และเก็บได้นาน (บอกก่อนว่า หัวหอมในที่นี้มีขนาดเส้นผ่านศูนย์กลางประมาณสามนิ้ว ส่วนแครอทเป็น เบบี้แครอทขนาดโดยเฉลี่ยประมาณหัวแม่มือ)

Day 113...ของที่อยากกิน

อยู่มาได้เกือบ 4 เดือนละ เริ่มคิดถึงอาหารบ้านเรา

จริงๆ อาหารไทยบางอย่างก็พอหาเครื่องปรุงมาทำได้อยู่ แต่บางอย่างก็หาไม่ได้ อาหารอีสานยังทำกินเองได้ ส่วนอาหารจีนก็มีหลายร้านอยู่ อาหารญี่ปุ่นนี่สิ ไม่มีเลย

- อย่างแรก ก๋วยเตี๋ยวลุยสวน อยากกินมาเป็นเดือนละ แต่มันทำยาก ผักหลายชนิดที่นี่ไม่มี โดยเฉพาะพวกโหรพาหรือสะระแหน เป็นของแพงไปเลย อีกอย่าง น้ำจิ้มก็ไม่ใช่จะทำง่ายๆ นะ

- เป็ดย่าง หรือ ข้าวหน้าเป็ด เราไม่เคยเห็นเป็ดที่นี่เลย มันเป็นสัตว์หายากรึเปล่าก็ไม่รู้ ตามร้านอาหารจีนก็ไม่มี

Day 103...Open Source on Mac

I have nothing to write about these days. Everything is the same except I've got a new MacBook and I'm trying to get used to it. Since I've used FreeBSD before, I prefer open source. This is the list of software that I'm using.

Firefox - This is a good and fast web browser with the smart location bar. You can type just a part of the addresses that you've visited and it will search for you.

Adium - or Pidgin (Gaim) on other platforms. It is a very good instant messaging application. It can support many services, like MSN Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, etc., with good-looking interface.

Skype - I use the video call feature to communicate with my family and my friends in Thailand.

VLC - It's a cool media player because it can support various audio and video formats, DVD, and streaming.

Texmaker - This LaTeX editor has been recommended by Gapy. I've never used it but I've installed it already. :)

MacTex - LaTeX for Mac. Again, it has been recommended by Gapy.

iStat Pro - A widget for monitoring you system on MacBook, recommended by Aig. I've just installed it.

VirtualBox - A virtual machine, also recommended by Aig.

MS Word to Latex, Latex to Word, MathType to Equation Converter - It makes my life easier.

Day 99...Party@Dr. Box's Home

Yesterday, we (Thai students) went to Dr. Box' Home to have lunch together. Here are some videos.

Day 97...GRE, Monroe and Shreveport

Aig and Mon took me to Monroe to take GRE today. I've got the same scores as the last time. By the time we reached there, we had Chinese lunch around 11 A.M.

After GRE test, I went shopping with Aig and Mon because they wanted to buy some gifts for someone in Thailand. They took me to Shreveport, found some gifts at Barns & Nobel, Target. Then we had dinner at Vietnamese restaurant. The Vietnamese noodle soup was so great.

Day 94...New MAC User

I just got MacBook today. :D
But now I don't have time to go through it because I will have GRE test on Thursday and I've been assigned a new job also. It's kind of system monitoring, similar to the task I did at UniNet. I'm going to be very busy. :D

Day 92...Kung Fu Panda

Today, P Gan, P Noon, P Ja and I went to Monroe to buy something because P Gan and P Noon are going to go back to Thailand. We bought some food at Bao Bao and shopping at Mall. Then had lunch at IHOP.

After that, we headed back to Ruston, went to Celebrity theaters and watched Kung Fu Panda. I loved it! It was fun and amusing. It was the first movie that I saw in Ruston anyway.

After the movie, we went to Wal-Mart. It was Peach Festival in the downtown of Ruston but I bought some peaches at Wal-Mart since I had not seen even a peach in the festival. The peaches was testy though.

Day 91...Blueberry Cake

Since we still had some blueberries left, we had planed to make blueberry cake. We made it yesterday, with instant powder for butter cake. But we hadn't had a tray for making cake, we used the muffin tray instead. Then the cake looked like this.



It was delicious, honestly. :)

Day 88...Blueberry Muffin

These are blueberry muffins. I helped P Ja cook them yesterday. P Noon and P Gan had given us some blueberries. Then we decided to make blueberry cake. But as we went to Murphy's home, Jill had given us a bag of instant muffin ingredient and also a tray to make muffins. So we made moffins...See? I did it!

Day 86...Bar B Q @ Lake Claiborne State Park

Today, I went to P Gan and P Noon's apartments before 9 and we all got to the Biomedical Building around 9 to meet others. When all people (P Gan's new adviser who is from Hong Kong, many Taiwanese guys and girls, two Indians, two Japanese girls, an American big guy, and us, three Thais) were ready, we moved to the park. It took around 30 minutes driving from Tech to Lake Claiborne State Park. (We got lost somehow.)

There is an artificial sand beach at the barbecue area. (ยกทรายมาโปะ แต่น้ำเป็นน้ำจืด คิดได้ไง) Many Americans in bikinis sunbathed on that beach like they were at the sea.

Joe (P Gan's friend) and his girlfriend, April, had prepared some food for barbecue. Someone also brought some food and drinks. P Gan brought charcoal.

After we enjoyed our brunch, We went to rent three canoes and rowed into the lake. P Gan and I were in the same boat. We rowed to the opposite shore and saw some birds, like cranes, crows, and another kind that I was not sure if they were falcons or vultures. I loved that because I could see them very closely. They flew just right above my head.

Then we rowed back to the shore and turned the canoe to the others and waited for the next turn. P Noon was with me in the second round. But we did not see any birds. I thought we had disturbed them.

Had fun then got hungry, we got back to the barbecue area and ate again. Then we played frisbee (I was not good at it, always let it dropped.) before we cleaned up the messes and got home.

Day 85...Dinner @ Murphy's House

In the evening, P Gan and P Noon came to our apartment to wait for Steve because He was going to pick us up to his house. Jill had already prepared American food when we reached there. Their kids, Caleb and Ethan, were also waiting for dinner. It is the constitution of American religious people that they will prey to thank God for the food before having their meals. We did that too.

After dinner, we played some games and took a walk outside the house. The kids climbed the tree at the front of their house. Steve followed them. Jill said they usually climb the trees, not only this tree but all the tress around. Boys are normally naughty, aren't they?

Day 81...Getting lost in LOST

I'm watching LOST, a series on ABC channel. It is about survivors of a plane crash who had to survive on an unknown, mysterious island.

I spent my last weekend on that show. I've watched it online since I have the internet installed in my apartment. There are 4 seasons so far. :)

Day 78...Grave Yard

This evening, P Ja, Anthony, Mohammed and I went to the grave yard. They wend there for their homework but I just went with them. I think the Amirican culture (in Ruston, LA) and Chinese culture have something in common. People from the same family were buried in the same area. And their decendents come to see them sometimes.

There were graves of newborn babies. It was so sad that some of them had lived just for a few hours. And I also saw some graves of couples. I think they were buried in the same graves.

After my friends had finished their homework, we went hang out at Mohammed's apartment. We shared our cultures and also showed video clips of our cities in YouTube.

No. I did not just entertain myself. I still have worked on CUDA, have been trying to express the source code. Today, I also went pay my first month electric bill. It was $34.91. My friends said it was not expensive.

Day 75...Dinner @ Danial's Apartment

I received a new router and laptop stands that I have ordered from Amazon last Friday. It took around 5-6 days to be delivered to me. So today I was busy with the router until around 3 P.M. Then I went to the lab and met Aig and Mon there.

After I hung out there for a while (and was messing with CUDA multiplication source code), P Noon appeared. He helped me express the source code. Thank him. :)

Then P Noon asked me to go to Danial's apartment because he was going to have dinner there. Danial was going to cook Nepali food for him. I could not miss for sure.

Danial's apartment is near P Noon and P Gan's. He was just up when P Noon and I reached his apartment. He had been working all night. Then we went to buy some ingredients at County Market. We walked there under the sun of summer. So hot!

Danial's food was not bad. It was a little bit spicy for me and P Noon but too spicy for him. After that we had some ice cream, sherbet orange flavor.

Before I went home, I saw P Gan waiting for his Taiwanese friend at the door of his apartment. He was going to have dinner at his friend's apartment. So when his friend came to pick him up, I have a chance to get into his sport Audi.

Day 74...Connect to the World

I have had internet connection in my apartment already. :)
It is 8 Mbps, actually. But as I test with many speed test tools, it's just 2-6 Mbps. :(

Today so, I just got a letter from the graduate school that my application has passed and now being reviewed by the college. Good news!

Day 70...Online Consumer

P ja and I need a wireless router. After we have checked the prices at Wal-Mart and Amazon and also some other websites, we placed an order at Amazon. So I'm now an online consumer, since this is my first time to buy something from a website. I will buy a computer online though. A MacBook. :)

Day 69...Offline

I'm tired of the connection. Since my friend's router died, I have tried to connect to the internet using someone's signal (which has no security) around here. But it's so weak. However, I'll have cable modem installed in my apartment next Tuesday.

Day 67...New Task

I already placed my application this morning. And I just start working on CUDA. "Just start" does not mean anything because I don't know anything about it actually.

I am also preparing for the GRE test. The verbal part is horrible, though the quantitative part is my hope. So I am working hard on math.

Day 66...Reused

I just start working with Dr. Box. So, today I went to talk to Clayton about the research that he is working on. Dr. Box wants me to coordinate with him since he is going to move to somewhere. (I cannot remember.) He sent me stuff that I need to follow. I think I am going to be busy reading these materials.

Anyway, I tried to reuse boxes, paper, and so on since goods are so expensive here (compare with Thailand).


This used to be a Tupperware box. Now I use it as a table at my bed head. :D

Day 63...Friday Activities

This morning, I went to the graduate office to ask about admission since I am not sure if I will be an International applicant or U.S. citizen. The pretty officer there told me that I will be considered as an out-of-state applicant but still U.S. citizen.

After that, I went to see P Ja at the library. Then we went to the post office, that is on campus, because P Ja had to make money order to order her transcript from London.

When we had finished from the post office, we walked to the ELS center to get our grades. I also got the certificate that I had attended the courses here and also the certificate for the highest score in grammar. So glad...

Day 62...The Last Day in ELS

I had a final and writing in the morning. In the afternoon class, Public Speaking, Jane let us to evaluate ourselves, told jokes and played games. In TOEFL Prep class, Mrs. Ruth leaded us to International Admission Center to be advised about applying to LA Tech.

Around 4:30 P.M., P Ja and I walked to Forthy Monkey. It is constitution of ELS in Ruston that the students will have free coffee and some desserts and hang out there with the teachers in the last day. David and Mahammed also taught me to play chess.

After that we went to hang out in Mahammed apartment. We came home around 8:00 P.M. because I realized that it was dusk.

Day 60...Good News!

Remember? I took TOEFL test 3 weeks ago (Day42).
I've got the scores today and I've passed it with 88 scores. So, I don't need to study in English any more. Just pay attention in GRE.

By the way, I'll go to see Dr. Box tomorrow to talk about what I'm supposed to do next. I think I'll apply to LA Tech soon.

Day 57...Thai Student Meeting

Today, P Gan invited us to go have dinner at his apartment because he was alone. Song, his roommate, had been back to Korea. P Ja planed to make some Nam Prig Kapi, so she asked P Gan to buy an egg plant. I also asked Aig and Mon to join us.

Aig and Mon cooked some food and brought there. P Ja and I brought some Nam Prig Kapi but we did not have enough lime so we stopped by County Market and grabbed some. Limes were a bit more expensive than the day before. Then I just picked a small bottle of limeade.

When we reached P Gan's apartment, we cooked fried egg plant coated with flour to eat with Nam Prig Kapi. The limeade in the bottle I had bought was not as sour as lime. We added our Nam Prig Kapi with almost half a bottle but it still was not sour. Fotunately, it was not too bad.

After we finished the main course, Aig and Mon had some banana in coconut milk as dessert. It was lovely!

Day 54...Photo Update

Day 52...Thai Night @ Murphy's Home

We had had an appointment with Steve and Jill for at least a month that we would cook Thai food for them at their home. We just did it today.

We brought two kinds of soup... Mara stuffed with ground pork and something like green squash. We had Som Tam as well. P Noon and P Gan brought some fried rice, chicken with black source and chicken with ginger. For dessert, we had Salim. That was so great even it was an instant one.

Today so, we have a new dining table with two chairs. Our neighbor graduated and she is going to move out. She could not sell her stuff and she know that our room is still empty, so she gave us the table. How kind is she?

Day 51...In Social Party

These days, I was so busy with reinstalling FreeBSD. It's had a problem with WPA. I don't know why.

Today my friends and I went to the church as usual. As we reached there P Ja called Steve to ask about the activity in the church. Steve came up and leaded us to a farewell party. It was a social party! There were volunteers served us food. And they were all elderly. So I just sat quietly...

Day 48...Still Wet Day

It still has rained today. All wet...

As for every week, we went to have lunch at Wesley Foundation. Actually it is one buck per meal but today it was free. I met an American girl. She was born in Peru. Her mom speaks Spanish so that she can speak both English and Spanish very well.

Before I got back to class I had bought a CD that they sold to collect some money for their activities on public good. It was two bucks. See...I involved.

I stopped by dr. Box's office this afternoon. He told me to try on GRE again...SO SAD!

Day 47...Wet Day

Last night, I got weird with Windows on my laptop. I thought it was spyware. So I reinstalled Windows. And I will try on FreeBSD again on this weekend.

Today, there was nothing much. It had rained since last night and just stopped in the afternoon. Fortunately, I have an umbrella. :D

Day 45...New Table, New OS

It was last Saturday that I was attracted by a coffee table at the used furniture store. As I like to sit and work on the floor, so I decided to have this table as my working table. It was $45, all wood. :)

And today so I installed FreeBSD 7.0 on my laptop without CD. It was not hard as I'd found a software called "unetbootin". It can run on many platforms. But I still have a problem with wireless network since my friend's AP has WPA. I'll try it again tomorrow. It has to work!

Day 44...New Shelf & Esan Day

This morning, P Ja and I assembled our new shelf that we'd bought last night. After that we cooked Esan food that was Grilled chicken, Som Tam (Spicy papaya salad), Lab Moo (Spicy ground pork), Soop Nor Mai (Spicy bamboo shoot), Tom Yam Kung (Spicy shrimp soup) and sticky rice. P Gan and P Noon helped us bring it to their apartments. Song and Chucky also joined us. They enjoyed our food. After we ate sticky rice, we were so sleepy...

In the afternoon, P Ja went to the library to do her homework. I stayed home, did my homework and arranged my books onto the new shelf. :D

Day 42...TOEFL in Monroe

Today P Ja and I took TOEFL test together in Monroe (the city I left the flight when I came here). We got up at 5:30 AM. The taxi reached our apartment at 6:30...earlier than the time we had told him. The driver drove at 60 mph...slower than the speed limit. However we could reach the test center before report time 30 mins. So we walked around the campus (University of LA, Monroe).

After the test, we went to Bao Bao, the Asian food market (but belongs to Vietnamese). There are many Thai ingredients, like many flavor of MAMA, can curry, palm sugar, etc. We had made an appointment with Song, P Gan, P Noon to pick us up there.

Then they took us to a place like department store. But I cannot remember the name. We walked around, got into many brand name stores. But I bought nothing. Why do I have to buy since I have enough?

We went to another grocery because the guys wanted to find some ingredients for Pad Thai tonight. P Ja and I spent a lot on frozen meat. We need food for at least one week. My friends also do like this.

Tonight we had Pad Thai and shrimp omelet at P Gan and Song's apartment. P Noon cooked Pad Thai. It was OK...nearly the original. :)

Day 40...Nothing New

Actually the title of this post is related to the last one...

My second day of this session seems to go well. I don't have a lot of homework today but as I attend Public Speaking and TOEFL Prep classes, I probably have to work harder than the last session. Anyway I still have time to find something interesting :D

Day 39...New Things

This is the second day at my new apartment and the first day of my class in this session.

Everything seems to be OK...Still don't have furniture. I spent 2 days on cleaning my apt. It's very dirty when I first got in.

I just also reinstalled OS on my laptop. And I forgot to install Thai language. (I've returned my friend the CD.) So I cannot type Thai now. It's good to practice English with writing diary though. ;)

Day 37...MOVED!

เมื่อคืนวันศุกร์ยุ่งกับการเก็บของจะย้ายออกจากหอพัก ก็เลยไม่ได้เข้ามาเขียน
เมื่อวาน ย้ายเข้า new apartment ก็เลยไม่ได้เข้ามาอีก

ว่าแต่ ตอนนี้ต้องอาศัยอยู่กับเอกกับมนก่อน เพราะห้องเราไม่มีไฟฟ้าใช้... :(
เราไปเปิดแล้วนะ เมื่อวันศุกร์ แต่ไม่รู้ยังไง มันไม่มีไฟฟ้ามา แถมไม่มีแก๊สด้วย วันพรุ่งนี้ต้องไปโบ๊งเบ๊งกับมัน

เมื่อคืน พี่จ๋า (roommate ข้อย) กลับมาจาก New York เห็นห้องก็โอเคนะ แล้วก็เลยออกไปซื้อของด้วยกัน ช็อปกระจาย เพราะยังขาดของอีกเยอะ กว่าจะกลับมาก็ดึก

ตอนเย็นไปโบสถ์ ได้เล่น roller skate เป็นครั้งแรก ล้มหัวโขกพื้นเลย เจ็บอะ แต่สนุกดี เล่นไปเล่นมาก็เริ่มเดินได้ เสร็จแล้วก็ตามธรรมเนียม กินต่อ...

พอกินเสร็จก็เล่นก็เล่นเกมต่อ เขาเรียกว่า Killer คือ ถ้าใครได้ไพ่ Ace of spade ก็เป็น Killer แล้วก็จะแอบขยิบตาให้คนอื่นในวง ถ้าใครถูกขยิบตาให้จะตาย แล้วก็ต้องบอกว่า I'm dead แล้วก็หงายไพ่ โดยห้ามบอกว่าใครขยิบตา คนอื่นๆ ก็จะต้องทายว่าใครเป็น Killer สนุกดีเหมือนกัน อิอิ

Day 34...Apartment Hunting (The End) and The Big Spender

ในที่สุด เราก็ได้ที่ซุกหัวแล้ว...เย้!
สุดท้ายก็เลือกอยู่ที่เดียวกับมนกับเอก อยู่ใต้ห้องสองคนนี้พอดีเลย ถ้าพวกนี้วิ่งเล่นอยู่ข้างบนละก็ เสียงตึงตังลงมาถึงข้างล่างแน่ๆ

วันนี้ทำสัญญาไปแล้ว 4 เดือน เดือนละ $485 จ่ายเดือนแรก รวม deposit ไป รวม $970

แล้ววันนี้ก็จ่ายค่าเรียนเดือนหน้าอีก $1615 (รวมประกัน และ meterial) แพงโคตะระ...ขนหน้าแข้งร่วงกราว เลือดออกซิบๆ

วันนี้อีกเหมือนกัน เป็นวันสอบไล่ เลื่อน level แล้วก็จะจบ course แรก ข้อสอบยากพอดูเลยแหละ แต่ก็ยังไม่เท่า TOEFL หรอก

แล้วตอนเย็นก็มีกิน เหมือน party ปิด course ของ ELS อะ...งานนี้กินฟรีครับท่าน ELS จ่าย (แน่ดิ ก็เก็บไปเยอะแล้วนี่หว่า)
และเช่นเดิม เพื่อนถ่ายรูปไว้ ถ้ามันส่งมาแล้วจะเอามาแปะให้ดูนิ
